The third and final cricket test match between the Windies and Pakistan is currently underway. It has only academic value because the three-test match series has already been clinched by Pakistan 2-0 after winning the Twenty 20 and the fifty-fifty series against the West Indies hands down. Earlier its performance in England was also quite encouraging. The efforts of the team’ coaches, it appears, have started paying dividends.
In a few days’ time Pakistan’s team is to undertake an extensive tour of the Down Under in which it would play against the Kiwis and the Kangaroos .This is going to be a tough series because of the turning wickets of Down Under.
It seems that Pakistan’s cricket team has come out of the lean period and many promising youngsters have been discovered who are going to be the mainstay of our cricket team for many years to come. There should, however, be no room for complacency. The PCB should evolve a system under which there should a continuous hunt round the year for new talent which should be brought to the fore and blooded.
With no offense intended to anybody, Shahyr Yar Khan, who is on the wrong side of 80 now is well past his prime .The PCB should have a new chairman but politics should play no part in his selection. The recently appointed new foreign coach and chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haque were good choices for the jobs entrusted to them. They have done well .They should try to groom at least three players each for every position in the team for all the three formats of the game so that we don’t have any problem of replacement whenever any player is indisposed or injured. All the players must be given a chance to play at the highest level so that they develop international level temperament.
