The tone, tenor and language being used by some of our politicians against one another leave much to be desired. They are reminiscent of the election days of 1970 and 1977.One wonders what type of impression is being formed by the new generation of the country of these politicians after listening to their broadside against one another? Not that they are uneducated .Most of them have gone long in the tooth in the field of politics.
An age old adage says that wounds inflicted by the sword do heal after some time but the one caused by the tongue never heals. One should, therefore, use language against his political adversaries with abundant caution.
During second world war Hitler used very derogatory language against the British prime minister Sir Winston Churchill in his speeches .Once some journalists drew the attention of the British prime minister about the use of filthy language against him by the German Fascist leader to which Churchill replied that it appears that Hitler didn’t have a good primary education and that was that. Hitler was completed bowled over by that one-liner of Churchill.
There was no love lost between Churchill and Bernard Shaw, the famous playwright. Once the latter sent two tickets to Churchill for the opening show of his latest drama being staged in a London theatre with a written message that one ticket is for you and the other for your friend. Bring him if you have one. Churchill sent him a note saying cannot possibly attend first night: will attend second —-if there is one.
It is a pity that the likes of Hussain Shaheed Suhurwardy, Mumtaz Khan Daultana, Abdul Qaiyum Khan, Sardar Nisthar, Abdul Wali Khan Ghaus Baksh Buzenjo, Mufti Mahmood, to mention a few, who excelled in the art of repartee have stopped coming to our Parliament. They were extremely well read persons and were sober par excellence.
