- MWM leader also sent on judicial remand
KARACHI, November 7: Maulana Taj Muhammad Hanfi, a leader of Ahle-Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ), has been put under house arrest for 30 days.
He was house arrested on the recommendation of DIG West. Sindh Home Department has also issued a notification in this regard.
The move comes two days after law enforcement agencies arrested Mirza Yousuf and former Senator Faisal Raza Abidi.
Meanwhile, an anti-terrorism court Monday sent to jail the leader of Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen leader Allama Mirza Yousuf on judicial remand.
According to our correspondent, the court has directed the investigation officer to submit the challan on November 23.
Allama Mirza Yousuf is accused of delivering a provocative speech.
Meanwhile, two MWM leaders Allama Ahmed Iqbal Rizvi and Syed Ahmed Abbas were also produced before the court. They were released on bail against surety bond of Rs 10,000 each.
Earlier, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said that Faisal Raza Abidi was arrested over possession of illegal weapons, while Mirza Yousuf was arrested in different cases already registered against him.
Shah dispelled the impression that some particular community is being targeted in Karachi operation, saying that the action is being taken only against terrorists.
The chief minister appealed to the citizens to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in the ongoing operation against criminal elements. NNI
