It seems Zardari has, to all intents and purposes, now launched his son into active politics .During the past couple of days Bilawal has become quite active. In his public speeches he has been simultaneously taking on both Imran Khan and Nawaz Shareef .The question is would Zardari in his heart of hearts like the conviction of Nawaz Sharif on corruption charges? Does he not feel it would be followed by his trial also on more or less similar charges because what is sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander also .Conviction of Nawaz Shareef would pave the way for start of criminal proceedings against him also in all probability———-a fear which haunts him terribly. Both have bought costly property abroad with money which they cannot account for. There are many who believe that while there is no love lost between them but trial of Nawaz Shareef on corruption charges is the last thing Zardari wants because he fears that he and his many cronies might suffer the same fate.
Bilawal is a trump card which the old PPP leadership would like to use for regaining power. Should the PPP win the 2018 election under Bilawal’s leadership that can save most of the leaders of this party against whom massive cases of corruption exist but the big question is whether the electorate would be willing to give mandate to the old faces in the PPP once again in 2018 elections whose corruption knew no bound when they were last in power to rule over them again for another five years?
There is no denying the fact that the PPP has a mass appeal in all the four provinces of the country and it is quite capable to bounce back in power provided Bilawal enters into the political arena with brand new faces not tainted with corruption. Whether Zardari realizes this? Only time will tell. Zardari would have to sideline many of his old cronies if the PPP is to regain its lost touch with the common man. Make no mistake about it.
