it is time our durable Prime Minister should read the famous statement of the founder of France’s Fifth Republic, General (R) Charles Degualle.
When the first wave of unrest started against his long rule in 1966, the great French Leader started brooding seriously over the option of calling it a day and resigning.
” I don’t agree sir” a close aide said . “You have done so much for France. The country is galloping forward. Progress is unprecedented. Your presence at the helm of affairs is indispensable.”
“Every man at the helm of affairs thinks so. But beneath my feet may be buried more indispensable men than me. The earth swallows its Napoleons and Alexanders. And the world moves on. France will move on too without me” replied Degualle.
Soon after the great man called it a day with a sharp comic remark: ‘ When people get sick of your face, step back into darkness.”
The reason Mian Nawaz Sharif will not read Degualle’s statement is that he is used to reading out only the speeches written for him to be read out. And he is as poles apart from Degualle, as Congo from New York.
Still Mian Nawaz Sharif has to read history. At least his own history. He was not born last Monday . And he didn’t enter into the corridors of power on last Wednesday. He has been in the Newspapers for over 35 years now. He has been in effective power for nearly quarter of a century. At least in Punjab. He has played his innings. It is time he should tell himself: ” Walk away idiot, before they throw you out. You have already more wealth than is required to keep the grandchildren of your grandchildren in the bracket of FILTHY RICH.
