The recent big increase made in the pay package of our parliamentarians was, by no means, justified. The parliamentarians seem to be interested in their own monetary benefits and they care two hoots for the class four employees and factory labourers and other lower echelon officials who have been struggling hard to get by.Every year the members of Parliament increase by a pittance the salary of the low paid government employees after they make a hue and cry for increase in it ,whereas, on the other hand they pass all those bills by the drop of a hat which concern increase in their monetary benefits.
How can our parliamentarians be dubbed as underpaid and poor when they have the capacity to spend crore of rupees on their elections ?Don’t they get crores of rupees annually from the government for carrying out so-called developmental activity in their respective constituency, half of which is hardly spent and about the other the less said the better. Why the hell do they spend hefty amounts for contesting polls for the assemblies if they don’t consider the expenditure worth it ?There must be some attraction which motivates them to get elected in Parliament.Insiders say that politics in this country today is the most profitable business. You invest two crore in it by contesting polls for any assembly and it will have given you in return ten times more by the time you completed your term in Parliament.
The recent rise in the pay package of the parliamentarians has rubbed salt into the wounds of the have-nots of this country. The common man is utterly disappointed over their indifference to their living conditions and their failure to carry out legislation for their betterment.
