NAB has become facilitator in corruption: SC

ISLAMABAD, December 14: Supreme Court of Pakistan judge Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed while terming the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) as facilitator in corruption and heat and mind, sarcastically asked the Bureau to tell the court as to what the prevalent rate is for not arresting the accused in the Rental Power Plants (RPPs) case.
The Supreme Court on Wednesday heard the RPPs case. During the hearing, bail application of former president AJK’s son Baber Zulqarnain, who is one of the accused in the case, came up for hearing.
Upon this, Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed expressed his annoyance and asked the NAB to let the court know as what the prevalent rate are for not arresting the accused.
To this, Director General NAB told the court that the Bureau had its own policy for arresting the accused. He added that NAB did not arrest those who extend their help in instigation, voluntary return the embezzled amount and senior citizens.
Upon this, Justice Azmat Saeed Sheikh remarked that NAB had become facilitator in corruption adding that the Bureau is heart and mind of corruption in the country. He added that the instant matter was of $128 million, but no warrant of the accused has been issued as yet, adding that NAB polices were beyond comprehension. The court directed the Bureau to present evidence and reference against the accused Baber Zulqarnain. The court remarked that if on next hearing the reply was not submitted then NAB chairman should himself appear before the court. It is to be mentioned here that in RPPs case former Prime Minister and senior PPP leader Raja Pervez Ashraf is on bail.-Sabah
