  • Pakistan summons Indian Envoy over cross-border firing

Driver killed, eight pupils injured as Indian shelling hits school vanISLAMABAD, December 16: The Pakistani Army said on Friday that the Indian forces’ unprovoked firing across the Line of Control (LoC) killed a civilian and injured four school children.
The latest incident happened after a lull of weeks along the LoC, which divides the two countries in the disputed Kashmir region.
“One civilian embraced shahadat (martyrdom) and 4 school children were injured when Indian troops violating ceasefire sanctity targeted a school van at LoC in Nakial sector today,” an army statement said.
“Pakistani troops effectively responded and targetted Indian posts from where fire was coming,” the statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations said.
Pakistan had declared ceasefire along the LoC and working boundary in 2003. However, escalation has been seen between the bitter neighbors since militants attacked an army base in the Indian-occupied Kashmir in September, which left 19 Indian soldiers dead.
The Indian side blamed Jaish-e-Mohammad for the attack, but Islamabad rejected the accusation as groundless.
The Foreign Ministry said last month that India has committed over 200 ceasefire violations this year, out of which 184 have been on the Line of Control (LoC) and 38 on the working boundary with Pakistan. Pakistan summoned Indian envoy over the latest cross-border firing on a school van which killed driver and injured four children, officials said. – Agencies
