Bilawal’s statement accusing the present government of not arresting the killers of his mother is laughable. His own party was in power for full five years between 2008 and 2013. Why on earth it didn’t arrest them if it was so easy?
Maulana Fazlur Rehman has been introduced by the prime minister for mending fences of his party with the PPP. The very fact that PPP has decided to send Zardari and Bilawal to National Assembly by making them contest bye-elections in February 2017 means that it is interested in the continuance of the present Parliament till 2018. Shrewd trouble shooter as he is,Maulana Fazlur Rehman might succeed in bridging the political differences between Zardari and Mian Sahib on some give-and-take formula. Should he succeed in his mission odds are that in that case the present government would complete its stint in office. Insiders bet that the 2018 polls might be held in March 2018 for which announcement can be made towards the end of the current year.
There is no denying the fact that the tone and tenor of the speeches of both father and son on the occasion of death anniversary of Benazir was not as harsh as was generally expected. It is now very much clear that the PPP is playing for time as it has yet to reorganise itself in Panjab where it is in a bad shape. Moreover it has to hold intra party elections also as going into the general elections with the same old faces who were instrumental for its downfall in the last general elections would amount to committing political suicide.
