MUZAFFARABAD, February 8: All is set to observe complete shutdown on Tuesday, on the martyrdom anniversaries of liberation leaders Muhammad Afzal Guru and Muhammad Maqbool Bhat.
Call for the strike has been given by the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference (G), Syed Ali Geelani and APHC leaders Mirwaiz Muhammad Umar Farooq, Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Muhammad Yasin Malik and Hurriyat (JK) leader Shabir Ahmed Shah.
Muhammad Afzal Guru was hanged on the 9th February in 2013 in Delhi’s Tihar Jail in a fake case of attack on Indian parliament.
Muhammad Maqbool Bhat was hanged on February 11, 1984 while as the parliament attack convict, Guru was hanged on February 9, 2013. Both Bhat and Guru were buried in Tihar jail after their death and the Kashmiri separatists are demanding for their mortal remains.
Paying rich tributes to Muhammad Maqbool Bhat and Muhammad Afzal Guru on their anniversaries, Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani called for statewide shutdown on February 9 and February 11, and demanded the return of their mortal remains.
“Both these martyrs are the heroes of Kashmiri nation and we are proud of them,” Geelani said, in a statement from New Delhi, appealing the people to hold special prayers on February 9 and 11, for these two great martyrs.-NNI
