The PCB should be concentrating on the next World Cup tournament which isn’t far away now. The old timers should now call it a day on their own volition instead of sticking to the team as there comes a time in the life of every cricketer when age starts telling heavily on his reflexes and he is not in a position to give his hundred percent no matter what his standing is in international cricket.
The set back faced by Pakistan cricket team in its recent tour of Down Under should not discourage any one. The blessing in disguise of this tour of Australia and New Zealand was that it established the credentials of batsmen like Sharjeel, Babar Azam and Asad Shafiq. Our weak point is our fast bowling department . The PCB despite its best efforts has not been able to discover pacemen of that calibre who could instil fear in the heart of opposing batsmen. For many many years the West Indies ruled the roost in the ODI’S because it had a battery of pacemen against whom only a few batsmen in the world could bat with confidence. The downfall of the West Indies started the day those fast bowlers started retiring and the West Indies could not find their true substitutes even to this day.
The Indian cricket team made its mark on the international scene only after it discovered genuine pacemen. The point is that if we are to regain our lost position in the world of cricket we would have to discover the likes of Imran, Waseem Akram, Waqar Younas, Shoaib Akthar, to mention a few because without quality pacemen it would not be possible for us to bounce back on the world scene.
