Have the politicians started unannounced their election campaign?It seems they have! Almost all the political parties worth their salt have been holding rallies in different parts of the country though their focus is on Panjab as they know in their heart of hearts that whosoever takes maximum seats in this province would carry the day. Imran Khan and the PML(N) are quite regular in holding public meetings. Bilawal too, off and on, leads public rallies but the PPP as yet has not been able to re activate itself fully in Panjab. About its political activity in other provinces the less said the better. It has not been able even to hold intra party elections for fear that the key positions in the party might, in that case, slip out of the hands of the present blue eyed office bearers of the party’s top leadership. There are many who believe that Zardari has gone to the US to seek favour of the new American establishment for his party in the next polls, though it isn’t going to help it given the fact that the stories of the financial shenanigans of its leaders during the PPP ‘s reign in power between 2008 and 2013 are still fresh in the minds of the people.
In addition to the PPP, PTI and the PML(N) the other parties too have also started corner meetings and are warming up for the elections.
POSTSCRIPT: The Army has agreed to provide armed personnel for the holding of fresh census in the country next month which is fair enough. The earlier they are completed the better because the latest population figures would then be reflected in the voters ‘ list to be used in the general elections which are round the corner. How the government would tackle the Baloch political leaders who say that unless the Afghan refugees leave Balochistan they would not support holding of the census is yet to be seen.
