DELHI: Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka by five wickets in their Blind Twenty20 World Cup encounter at New Delhi on Thursday, ARY News reported.
Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bat first in the match.
The island-nation, batting first, scored 164/7 in their 20 overs. Chandana Deshapriya was the top scorer with 46 runs from 43 balls with two boundaries to his name while Dimuthu Ravindra made 22 runs off 16 deliveries. Openers Suranga Sampath and Ruwan Wasantha contributed 20 runs with the blade each.
Pakistani bowlers Badar Munir and Sajid Nawaz got a wicket each.
Pakistan, chasing 165 runs to win, reached the target in 17.2 overs with five wickets to spare.
Badar Munir fell one run short of his half century as he was dismissed after making 49 runs from 31 balls with the help of six boundaries and a six whereas Amir Ishfaq and Muhammad Akram scored 36 and 31 runs respectively.
Suranga Sampath grabbed two wickets for Sri Lanka while Dimuthu Ravindra and Pathum Saman Kumara took a wicket each as well.
This was Pakistan’s fourth successive win in the tournament. They started their campaign by beating New Zealand by 10 wickets and went on to defeat England by 97 runs.
The team’s biggest victory came against India as they won the match by seven wickets.
