The questions that are in the air all over Pakistan and on most tongues here are: (a) What is in store for the world in general and Pakistan in particular because of the presence of Donald Trump in the White House? and (b) What will be the outcome of the Panamagate and how will it impact Pakistan?
As for the second question it all depends upon how the collective conscience of our political leadership, our military leadership and our judiciary responds to the call of history. By history here I mean our future— the future of this crisis-ridden country and its cheated people.
Does the collective conscience I have mentioned above feel that enough is enough, and this country and its people cannot bear any more plunder of its wealth and resources at the hands of those who have been and are in power here, and happen to have effective control on the state machinery.
Those in control happen to be those who don’t miss an opportunity of reminding us that they have been authorized by the voters of this country to do what they are doing. But the military leadership and the judiciary will not be able to absolve itself in the eyes of history, from the responsibility of the consequences of the plunder going on, simply for the reason that they are not involved (or engaged) in it. The history will ask them: “Didn’t you have the power to stop it?”
As for the first question, I have two answers: (a) Trump, with his commands decisions and orders, will lead his own party to the conclusion that unless impeached in time, the flamboyant U.S President would do America irreversible harm and (b) Trump is going to surprise the world by emerging as the American version of “Herr Hitler” or Fuherer, and change the political map of the world in the same manner, the Nazi Dictator had done. His election was a shocking surprise. And his survival will be a consequential reality.
