The Americans must analyse their Afghan policy because to many it has not been able to eliminate the element for the complete annihilation of which it was put into effect. Conditions in Afghanistan are no better than they were back in 2001. The Yankees took trouble in raising an Afghan Army comprising 1lac and 50000 soldiers and Afghan police comprising about one lac policemen. They were properly trained and equipped with the  latest weaponry.  These forces  did not yield the desired results to the chagrin of Washington. Without  support of the few thousand American marines stationed there they simply cannot face the Afghan mavericks on their own steam. Over 40 thousand soldiers have either left the Army or have deserted to the Taliban alongwjth their weapons which is a cause of extreme concern to Washington. The writ of the Afghan government exists only on the few square yards of the area in the Afghan capital where its president resides or holds his  office. Ashraf Ghani is  Karzai incarnate.. The moment the Americans decide to withdraw the security umbrella provided by them to the present Afghan rulers the Afghan government would collapse like a house of cards.
