The daughters of Zardari have expressed their disapprobation over the joining of the PPP by Irfanullah Marwat and by doing so they have, in a way, disapproved of the decision of their father without whose approving nod he could not have joined the PPP.
The reason cited by them for their opposition to Marwat’s joining the PPP is that his name had come in a gang rape case in Karachi a couple of years back and therefore a person involved in a moral turpitude case should have no place in their political party. They certainly have a point there. It is unfortunate that in this part of the world all that matters in politics is wealth . The more a person has got pelf the greater the chances of his becoming a member of the political party of his choice. For the head of the political party he joins, it is immaterial whether he enjoys good moral or financial reputation as long as he had a fat purse to bankroll the political party he joins.
Nobody can understand better than Zardari that as long as factors like religious sect , language , and clan remain yardstick of succeeding in politics the true representatives of the people simply can’t make it to Parliament or provincial assemblies. In such circumstances people like Faisal Saleh Hayat , Nabeel Gabol and Irfanullah will always be electable candidates and that is why they are being accepted with open arms by the PPP leadership.
