The next litmus test of our cricket team is about to start. The forthcoming tour of the West Indies, where it has to play in all the three formats of the game is not going be a walk over. The Windies are difficult to beat on their soil.
The PSL has thrown up quite a few promising youngsters who have the makings of very good batsman and bowler in both the seam and spin department so we have nothing to worry about.
Though the cricket crowds take a fancy to the shorter versions of the game like ODIs and Twenty20 but let us admit that the financial shenanigans of the bookies and many players have brought a very bad name to the game of cricket . This game used to be once called gentlemen’s game . Not now, alas.
The problem with most of our senior players is that they don’t come to terms with the hard reality of their growing age. The reflexes of the cricketers become weak once they are on the wrong side of thirty. The honourable way for them is to call it a day on their own volition instead of dragging on only to be sidelined by the selectors later. No body is indispensable.
The PCB should have its eyes fixed also on the next world cup scheduled for 2019 and groom a team for it which should be a happy blend of youth and experience.
