Will the threats of the PML (N) leaders of the breed of Khawaja Saad Rafique, Rana Sanaullah, Talal Chaudhry, Mian Javed Latif, Daniyal Aziz and Abid Sher Ali etc bear fruit for Mian Nawaz Sharif? These threats have been directed at both, the GHQ and the Judiciary. Both, covertly as well as overtly, these institutions have been reminded of the ruthlessness of the power that MNS can exercise on the basis of his popular mandate, in pursuit of his continuity as Prime Minister of Pakistan.
The Army has continuously been told that the harm that had come to the country due to the military rule in the past would not augur well if repeated again. The Judiciary is being told that any judicial verdict that will seek to disrupt the popular verdict that Mian Sahib enjoys is likely to trigger violent backlash. No one has been more explicit and vocal on this count than Rana Sanaullah. Talal Chaudhry too has gone as far as to ‘instruct’ the judges that they better be positive in endorsing the innocence of Mian Nawaz Sharif (if they are interested in their welfare).
The most devastating statement might have been made by Mian Javed Latif who said the other day, addressing the PML (N) tigers, that their roar and claws could result in wet pants whether in uniform or not.
Lately there has been an effort on the part of the PML (N) leadership to create an impression that the judges have finalised their verdict in favour of Mian Nawaz Sharif.
Quite clearly Pakistan is hanging in a state of suspense—between a yesterday that is dead, and a tomorrow that is unborn.
Should the nerves of the nation be overstretched and overtested?
