Boozing has not been allowed by any religion. The Sindh government deserve plaudits on banning sale of alcohol on special permits to non-muslims which were ultimately used by the Muslims who bought them from their recipients by paying them handsomely. This sale has been going on since long.
Pakistan being a Muslim country and use of alcohol being strictly forbidden in every religion the authorities should have laid a ban on bootlegging and sale of alcohol long ago but,as they say better late than never ,even now if it has realised the ill-effects of it on the society, so much the better.
It is a pity that some lawyers have assailed the ban order of the government in the court of law after receiving hefty amount as fee from the alcohol mafia. Don’t they know that money is not the only thing that matters in life? Don’t they realise the ill-effects on health of the nation caused by use of liquor? Are they not aware of the Islamic injunctions in the matter?
Hats off to the representatives of the non-muslims who have appeared in the courts and pleaded a ban on its saying that no religion allows its use and that special permits being issued in the name of non-muslims should be banned. The heads of the lawyers fighting the case in courts of the wine mafia should hang in shame.
