It was not bad that London recently intervened by trying its hand for easing tension between Afghanistan and Pakistan on their border . Granted that the Afghanis have to, perforce, visit Peshawar and Quetta for availing medical facilities in our hospitals due to inadequate medical infrastructure in Afghanistan. Besides, Afghanistan also depends on Pakistan for essential commodities and even if Pak-Afghan border closes for one day due to any reason the Afghanis are put to untold miseries. It also causes a great loss to the traders of the area.
The question which needs to be addressed , however , is this:how to prevent the terrorists from entering into Pakistan through porous Pak-Afghan border ?The only feasible solution to this problem is to put into effect s strict visa regimen for the Afghan nationals entering Pakistsn on valid Afghan passports. Likewise , Kabul too should adopt similar check and control on all types of entrants to Afghanistan. The present free no-holds barred system of cross border movement of Afghanis would have to be stopped.
The border needs to be fenced and all possible entry points be blocked and manned by Pak army jawans . Granted that it would require a hefty amount to control cross border movement but this is the price which we have to pay, come what may, for safeguarding integrity of our country .
No compromise on the question of fencing the border line be made otherwise all the good work done hitherto by our armed forces would go down the drain.
