Somebody rightly said the other day that Islamabad has started bursting at its seams and it is about time new constructions of all sorts in and around the federal capital were stopped. Truer words were never spoken.
The civic authorities are no longer in a position to extend the same type of civic amenities to the new housing sectors which they have given to the housing sectors that were constructed in the initial days, say in 1970, 1980 or for that matter up till 2000. The CDA has stretched its resources to the maximum and it is well high impossible for it to tax them any further.
Heavens are not going to fall if the government puts a full stop to new constructions in Islamabad by saying that enough is enough. Cities are bound to lose their vitality if they are overpopulated. During the reign of Italian Fascist leader Missioullini Rome was at its zenith and was expanding on all its four sides When . Allama Iqbal happened to call on him while he was in Rome he sought his advice about further beautifying it on which the poet of the East advised him not to overstretch it and instead of expanding it, build more cities as overstretching of a city kills it culturally besides sapping its energy.
