The character and the ideological directions of the government of Mian Nawaz Sharif can be judged from the allies he has chosen, and the people he has surrounded himself with.
Topping the list is Najam Sethi, the man he chose (in league with Asif Ali Zardari) to head the interim government of Punjab in the elections of 2013. The story of 35 punctures is a ‘product’ of that period. Imran Khan has been ridiculed by the Nawaz camp for failing to back up the ’35 punctures’ charge with substantial evidence. Najam Sethi delivered the whole of Punjab to MNS— not just 35 constituencies. Some crimes don’t need substantial evidence. These themselves are their own proof.
The next in line is Asma Jahangir. She has gone berserk in her condemnation of the authors of the Panama verdict. She is furious at Justice Khosa for having remembered Mairo Puzo’s ‘Godfather’ while examining Sharif family’s case. And she is furious at the whole bench for having involved the ‘Uniformed Villains’ (ISI and MI) in the JIT— thus depriving Sharif’s of an opportunity to ensure that the JIT is no more than a rubber-stamp.
Then comes the grandson of ‘Sarhadi Gandhi’ for whom Pakistan was an aberration. Asfandyar Wali Khan’s support to Mian Nawaz Sharif is as natural as that of one magnet to another.
What is common in these allies of Mian Nawaz Sharif?
The answer that comes promptly in mind is ‘New Delhi’.
For today’s echoes of the heart I have picked up this topic— thanks to Madam Maryam Nawaz’s latest tweet.
“Shahbaz Sharif’s close aide offered me Rs 10 billion. No, Hamza’s friend made an offer to my friend in Dubai. I fear for this man’s hereafter.”
This man is Imran Khan. It is Imran Khan’s HEREAFTER that is keeping Maryam Sahiba sleepless. Or hereafter of her own father?
Imran Khan hasn’t lied. Sharif family is a team that rules the country. Whatever be the feuds among the members of this team, their interests are common. They have one godfather. It is in his name that every member is supposed to act. Like Natha Singh and Prem Singh are one and the same thing, one Sharif or the other Sharif are one and the same thing.
An offer made to Imran Khan by any one of this family through any contact in any manner will be treated as an offer from the godfather.
Instead of Madam Maryam resorting to Twitter and Hamza Shahbaz to a hollow threat, the Sharif family should in reality take Imran Khan to the court. The truth will come out. And Maryam Sahiba will be tweeting: “I hope this ‘hereafter’ threat from Allah is no more than a threat.”
