Ink on the notification increasing salaries of parliamentarians had barely dried when the government started toying with the idea of making their stint in parliament pensionable besides, providing them with the insurance cover ,to boot. The additional monetary benefits that are going to be given to them would set the government back by another 4 billion rupees annually.
When it comes to scooping fat monetary gains for themselves from the government parliamentarians pass bills in double quick time, otherwise , their performance in making legislation for the good of the common man is pathetic. The amount of interest which they take in the proceedings in Parliament is visible from the frequent adjournments of the national assembly sessions due to lack of quorum .It is a pity that instead of punishing them they are being rewarded with extra monetary benefits.which they simply do not deserve at all.
