The JIT formed to find answers to the questions that constitute the TORs of the investigations into the Panama case, has commenced its work. The first countdown question to May the 22nd 2017 has begun. That is the day the JIT will submit its first report to the special Supreme Court bench constituted to implement the judgment of the larger bench.
The PTI has insisted that the probe proceedings should not go ahead in camera, considering the record of the Noon League government in handling such operations. The case of the Justice Baqar inquiry into the Model Town massacre is often cited in this regard. The latest insight into the Noon League government behaviour regarding such sensitive inquiries is the manner in which the Dawn Leak report of the relevant Commission has been handled.
One cannot blame the Noon League government for acting the way it acts. The man who has lent his name to the party that is ruling, is fighting for his survival. The first letter of his name NAWAZ is the identity of the Party that is in power at Islamabad as well as Lahore.
It is only understandable that Mian Nawaz Sharif will go to any length to try to ensure that no inquiry or judgment becomes an ‘existential’ threat to his power. Infact he knows that out of power he and his party will be dead fish — so rotten that it wouldn’t find way even to a respectable dinner table.
Those who live by the sword die by the sword. That proverbial dictum constitutes the crux of Mian Sahib’s strategy in dealing with any crisis that comes his way—whether it be of the Panama nature— or the ‘Modi’ nature. The Dawn Leak case infact is rooted in the Prime Ministerial longing to keep providing to Modi the proof of his strong commitment to their mutual bond.
Of course the JIT headed by a high FIA official will be monitored by three of the country’s most respected judges, but it goes without saying that the TRICKS that make the CROOKS what they are, can bamboozle even the most vigilant of brains.
