ISLAMABAD, February 15: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Sheikh Ansar Aziz has been elected first ever Mayor of federal capital Islamabad while securing 49 out of 77 votes. PTI candidate Raja Khurram Nawaz secured 26 votes. PML-N candidates Chaudhry Riffat Javed, Syed Zeeshan Ali Naqvi and Muhammad Azam Khan have been elected deputy mayors. The PTI candidates for Deputy Mayors were Fouzia Arshad, Raja Zulqarnain and Ali Nawaz Awan.
District Returning Officer Aleem Khan announced the unofficial result of the mayor and deputy mayors of Islamabad. 75 out of 77 votes were polled in the election of mayor and deputy mayors of Islamabad. Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation has 50 elected union council chairmen and 27 members on reserved seats. The polling was started at 9am and continued till 5 pm in peaceful manner and no untoward incident was reported during the election of mayor and deputy mayors of Islamabad.-Sabah
