ISLAMABAD, May 31: The Joint Investigation Team (JIT) has ordered Hussain Nawaz and Hassan Nawaz, sons of Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif to appear before the probe committee on Thursday over Panama Leaks case.
Sources privy to Federal Judicial Academy have reported that Nawaz would hand over certain documents to the probe committee tomorrow.
Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) had ordered formation of a JIT to probe premier’s and his family’s assets in Panama Leaks verdict that was delivered in April.
A committee, led by an official of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), was headquartered in Federal Judicial Academy following the orders of filing a report within two months.
Hussain Nawaz had appeared before the JIT consecutively on May 29 and May 30. While talking to the media on Tuesday before departing from the academy, Nawaz claimed that the no unlawful activity would be proved against his father or the family. PM Nawaz had denied allegations of corruption last year in May on the floor of the House in his speech.
International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) had studied a leak of documents belonging to a law firm, Mossack Fonseca and published a detailed account of former and incumbent leaders of the world who owned offshore companies.
Icelandic leader tendered his resignation over the allegations of using shell entities to stash wealth.
In Pakistan, opposition parties alleged the premier of corruption and demanded off him to step down. However, protesting opposition in the National Assembly called off the boycott and accepted premier’s offer to have a parliamentary committee define joint Terms of References (TOR) for probe in the apex court.
The committee members failed to strike a consensus over joint TORs and the top court announced in October 2016 to take up the case on petitions filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Awami Muslim League (AML) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI).
A verdict was reserved in February 2017 and was released on April 20. The apex court ordered formation of a JIT within seven days and filing of its report within two months.-Agencies
