Bilawal has a point there when he says if the ruling party in Islamabad took up the cudgels against the judiciary, his party would stand by the latter. The track record of (N) League on this score is far from satisfactory.People haven’t forgotten attack on the supreme court building by its hooligans a couple of years back. A former speaker of the national assembly had written in his book that once the chief of the (N) League had told him that if he had had his way he would like to give a lesson to the CJP Sajjad Ali Shah by putting him in a jail for one day.
Parliamentary democracy is a good system provided all state institutions are allowed to work on accordance with the law of the land and there is no interference in their functioning from the government in power. The tragedy with our rulers is that they want the state institutions to be their handmaiden.
Heavens didn’t fall if the sons of prime minister were called for interrogation by the JIT for finding out the truth in the Panama leaks. No body is above the law of the land.Unnecessary hype was created by some leaders of the ruling party in the matter to create an impression as if excesses were committed by the JIT by calling them for grilling.Public sympathy simply cannot be won through such grotesque propaganda methods. The man in the street is wise enough to see through the political game being played by the (N) League.
