Sindh Assembly again hangs issue of Rangers’ special powers

KARACHI, December 11: Sindh Assembly on Friday adjourned session once again without moving resolution regarding extension in Pakistan Rangers special powers in the Sindh metropolitan.
The session accepted a resolution to pay tribute to Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) late member Makhdoom Amin Fahim.
Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani suspended the agenda of the assembly and allowed Education Minister Nisar Khuhro to put forth a resolution in remembrance of the late leader. The participants paid rich tribute to Fahim for efforts to strengthen democracy in the country.
Dr Sikandar Mendro said that late Fahim always wanted to build a hospital for the impoverished. He said that PPP’s late leader’s social and political services would always be remembered.
PPP’s MPA Khairunnisa Mughal said that Fahim’s demise is the biggest loss of the party after late prime minister (PM) Benazir Bhutto.
Manzoor Wasan said that the leader would be remembered always.
Earlier on December 10, The session was adjourned without discussion over the matter of Rangers’policing powers in Karachi.
The extension of paramilitary force’s stay in the province was not discussed as per directives by the Speaker.
Meanwhile, Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) Khawaja Izhar-ul-Hassan said that there are no reservations on Karachi operation, but on some incidents.
However, Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) MPA Nusrat Sahar Abbasi assured that the authorities would not restrict the Rangers’ charge in Karachi.-Online
