KARACHI: Pakistan boxing coach Tariq Chaudhary alleged that the judges favoured the Indian boxers in the South Asian Games which cost Pakistani pugilists, Mohibullah Khan (49kg) and Ali Ahmed (60kg), gold medals on Monday.
“Both of our boys had actually won their bouts, but of course India got the home advantage,” said Chaudhary. “When the boxers were waiting for the results we were certain that the result would go in our favour. However, we were shocked to hear that our boxers lost to their Indian counterparts. If this event was taking place in Pakistan, we would certainly have won it.”Other results
Meanwhile in the kabaddi event, Pakistan managed to claim silver as they lost 9-7 to India in the final, while judoka Humair Ashiq bagged silver and Shumaila Gul, Ambreen Masih and Soman Birkat claimed bronze.
The women’s handball team defeated Nepal 28-24 to finish third and claim bronze in the event and skipper Parveen Akhtar praised the team for the effort they put in.
“We hardly get a chance to play in international tournaments, so to make it this far in the tournament is an achievement in itself. This will boost our confidence significantly,” said Parveen.
