Our downfall in hockey and squash is unexplainable as we were in the forefront of these two games not for a year or two but for decades altogether. Squash has yet to see the likes of Hasham Khan, Azam Khan, Roshan Khan, Qamar Zaman, Mohibullah senior and junior, Allaudin Gogi, Jehangir Khan and Jehansher Khan and all these stalwarts belonged to this country . The same is true of hockey. There wasn’t a single international hockey tournament between 1952 and 1990 in which we were not among the medals. We either won gold, silver or bronze medal .
What a pity that we are neither here nor there today in these two games in which once we occupied a pride of place in the world. Somebody has to find out what was the cause of our debacle in these two games. What has gone wrong, where and why?
In cricket we have been in and out. Our cricket team too has been through lean periods but it always bounced back . No body takes it seriously if are very poor in football as we have never shown any promise in this game but sports loving people of the country do lament the poor showing in squash and cricket as we had seen good days in these two games for quite a big time.
