When the Holy Prophet of Islam (PBUH) passed away, he didn’t leave much behind in terms of money and material possessions. But there were seven swords in the house as his legacy. These swords alongwith the Message he brought to mankind from Allah the Supreme, can confidently be adjudged as his great legacy or heritage to his Umma.
To understand the symbolic value of this legacy, let us examine the three great steps that our ultimate leader—the Holy Prophet of Islam—took after the Hadaibiya treaty.
(1) He commissioned the educated Muslims to spread out and impart education to the illiterate throughout the region.
(2) He sent groups to Yemen to acquire knowledge of Warfare with arrows and bows as key weapons.
(3) He sent ambassadors to all known kingdoms around, with one message:
(a) Embrace Islam and become our brothers in faith.
(b) Or pay Jaziya—a tax for security.
(c) Or get ready for war with the army of Allah.
Those who have seen the movie The Message will easily understand the significance of these steps.
Emphasis on education was a key pillar of the Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) teachings. Without education the power needed to build a society and a state could not be acquired.
Islam was not intended for a single region or land. It was aimed at embracing the whole mankind.
For all this, ‘POWER’ to overcome was required. Overcome those who stood in the way of the Message of Allah. Like a piece of land couldn’t be tilled for farming without having it in your possession and control, no society or state could benefit from the Blessings of the Divine Message unless there was access to its people.
This explains the presence of seven swords in the house of the Messenger of God (PBUH) after his departure from this mortal world.
