The chief of Peshawar district JI Sabir Awan deserves hosannas for voluntarily stepping down from his party office after accepting full responsibility for the ignominious defeat of JI’s candidate in the recently held bye election in NA-4.In this country nobody wants leave chair on his own and no one accepts responsibility of any debacle. The tendency is to pass on the buck to somebody else.In the same election many other political parties also fared very badly but so shamefaced are their local leaders that instead of resigning from their party positions they are accusing the provincial government of the KPK of gerrymandering.
KPK is a province where the electorate has tested in the not- too- distant past not only the religious parties but the ANP too but their performance left much to be desired. They didn’t leave a good impression on the people of the province. It would be an Herculean task for them, therefore, to restore the shattered confidence of the people in them. The percentage of youth in the electorate today is greater than the middle age and old people and let us admit that a majority of youth love Imran Khan more than any other living politician. It now depends on him as to how best he can cash in on his popularity among the masses of the country.
Both Zardari and Mian Nawaz Sharif have a lot to live down.In Panjab the ruling party is fast losing ground to the PTI.The PPP still suffers from disorganisation in Panjab and in Sind too it might not win all those seats which it had won in 2008. About other political parties the less said the better.
