Islamabad’ civic conditions as well as its traffic system are in a pathetic state requiring urgent attention of the concerned authorities. The federal capital has been sprawling at a speed which the civic amenities cannot keep pace with. The CDA is not in a position to make the basic civic amenities available to the residents of the new residential sectors coming up at a tremendous speed in and around Islamabad on the scale and pattern they have been provided to the inhabitants of old residential areas of the capital. No body in the CDA knows the sub soil position of water. There is no check, whatever,on the boring and drilling being done with rare abandon by people in their under construction houses for digging out water. When the water dries up they dig more by going into the soil deeper and deeper and there is no end to it,it seems.
The traffic system is in a mess. The less said about it the better. Traffic accidents are killing more persons than cancer. The traffic rules would have to be ruthlessly applied on the overspeeding of drivers if the road accidents are to be brought under control. Due attention is not being paid while issuing fitness certificates to the various types of vehicles plying on the road . Motorcyclists openly defy traffic laws with rare abandon before the very eyes of traffic sergeants by not plying in the lanes meant for them and by not wearing helmets.
The CDA and the Islamabad’ s traffic police would have to set their house in order and attend to the issues highlighted above before they snowball into bigger problems.
