The key slogan that I adopted in March 1981 when I formed the original Midas Company was: IDEAS SELL PRODUCTS BECAUSE PEOPLE BUY INEAS.
The idea that motored the Pakistan Movement was launched by Allama Iqbal in his 1930 Allahabad address. Its driving power pulled Mohammad Ali Jinnah into the mainstream of the Pakistan Movement. Urged by Allama Iqbal, the Quaid took over the effective command of the Muslim League that was soon to become the BANNER under which the Muslims of the subcontinent were to begin their journey towards Pakistan.
All great turnarounds in history have a beginning—beginning of the journey that leads to the ultimate destination.
The very first State of Islam had started taking shape from the night Allah’s last Prophet (PBUH) quietly left Makkah, the city of his birth— the home of his tormentors—and began his journey to Madina that was to become the first capital of an Empire, the like of which history had not known before. That night and that date changed the history of the World.
In the context of Pakistan the date that triggered the journey towards the creation of a State that was ordained to bring alive the traditions and the values that had gone into the birth of mankind’s first-ever Social Welfare State, as early as the third decade of the seventh century, was March 23, 1940.
That day seventyeight years ago, the skies of Lahore echoed with the thunder that the VOICE of the Father of this Nation was: Today We Begin Our March Towards PAKISTAN.
Pakistan was not be just a country. Countries are mothered and fathered by the facts of geography, race, language and history. They have vague beginnings. Pakistan was an IDEA whose time had come on March 23, 1940 and which was to materialize on August the 14th 1947.
78 years after the Birth of the Idea of Pakistan, and in the 71st years of the materialization of this IDEA into a state, we happen to be standing on crossroads. In the years between 1940 and 1947 we were up against foreign masters who had colonialised us. In the subsequent decades we stand colonialised by an indigenous ruling class whose basic objective is the same: PLUNDER AND SUBJUGAE.
Justice Asif Saeed Khosa might have spoken one of the greatest truths of our history when he likened our ruling class with the Mafia. Jinnah is known as THE FATHER OF THE NATION. Nawaz Sharif has earned the title of the GODFATHER. The irony is that the party named after the party that created Pakistan loves to own Mian Nawaz Sharif.
