It goes without saying that the use of heavy automatic prohibitive bore weaponry has been causing havoc in the country, insofar, as the law and order is concernced but the government is hesitant to ban its retention and use by pandering to the whims, caprices and interests of a majority of parliamentarians who happen to belong either to the feudal class or possess a feudal mentality. The common man doesn’t want to see such type of weapons in the hands of private individuals These weapons should be in the hands of personnel belonging to the Army or to the Para military force only. What good is parliament if it doesn’t make legislation commensurate with the aspirations of the common man?
Not once but many times in the past, half-hearted attempts were made by successive governments to de -weaponise the country . Special campaigns were launched with much fanfare only to be left in the midway because of political expediency.
Ironic at it may look, the governments, both past and present, instead of cleansing the society of heavy weapons has been issuing special permits to the persons desirous of carrying these lethal weapons on their person.
All the law and order maintaining agencies are unanimous in the view that the first step which needs to be taken for bringing down the incidence of violence in the country is to cleanse the society of heavy weaponry——a target not difficult to be achieved provided the police is given a free hand and there is no obstruction from the political quarters due to any political expediency.
