Once again Hussain Haqqani, in his latest book titled ‘Re-imagining Pakistan Transforming a Dysfunctional Nuclear State’ spewed venom against Pakistan. Haqqani, Pakistan’s ex-ambassador to US always tried to libel Pakistan at the behest of his masters in RAW and CIA. He noted in his book “The brutality of the Pakistan Army shocked Western diplomats and journalists on ground in Dhaka. ‘Here in Dhaka we are mute and horrified witnesses to a reign of terror by the Pakistan military,’ began a telegram to the State Department, signed by Archer Blood, US consul general in East Pakistan.” It is important to mention that Hussain Haqqani, was nominated in First Information Reports (FIRs) lodged by three people in three police stations in Kohat in January. The accusation is that he delivers hate speeches, and writes books and articles against the armed forces and sovereignty of Pakistan. Unfortunately, being the lonely nuclear country in the Islamic World, Pakistan has become special target of hostile foreign elements. They have also hired the services of those Pakistanis who can work against the national interest of their own country.
Hussain Haqqani who is serving currently as Director for South and Central Asia at the Hudson Institute in Washington DC and his wife Farah Naz Ispahani both are found trying their best to gain popularity as true patriotic Pakistani through their books and public talks which certainly is doubtful because of their anti-Pakistan statements. Sooner than later, he opted to align his loyalties to “pay back” Pakistan for the sins that allowed him to become the top most diplomat. He along with his spouse authored books like “Pakistan: Between Mosque and Military”, “Magnificent Delusions: Pakistan, the United States and an Epic History of Misunderstandings” and “Purifying the Land of the Pure; Pakistan’s Religious Minorities”. Be it a platform of a US based forum ie South Asians Against Terrorism & For Human Rights (SAATH) or Times Literature Festival Delhi (TLDF) 2016; be it an anti-Pakistan talk conducted at Stimson Centre or Carnegie Endowment; be it a book launch or memorial of Akbar Bugti’s death anniversary, Haqqani and his wife spare no occasion or an international platform to spit venom against Pakistan, its ideology and institutions, particularly the security structure. Generally key content of their speeches and talks always include promoting inter provincial hatred, spreading despair and chaos as well as maligning the image of national institutions, culture, religion and name of Pakistan.
Appointing a man of duplicitous character as Pakistan’s ambassador to US was a serious blow to Pakistan’s relations with superpower. And Hussain Haqqani exploited the granted opportunity at its fullest. Haqqani is known for shifting loyalties even in Pakistani politics. He began to develop a coherent argument against the military’s dominance of Pakistani politics. He was in student politics some 43 years ago, affiliated with the Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba (IJT); he praised General Ziaul Haq in the 1980s as a young journalist before working for Nawaz Sharif. He switched sides and became close to Benazir Bhutto and Asif Ali Zardari, ending up as Pakistan’s ambassador to the US after a stint in exile during the Musharraf years. His appointment as ambassador to US by PPP was nothing less than a treason again Pakistan. During his tenure, he not only ruined his bilateral ties between two allies but facilitated RAW/CIA to carry out nefarious activities inside Pakistan.
Though he was nominated as Pakistan’s ambassador to US and his job was to enhance bilateral ties between two countries, instead Haqqani played at the hands of CIA/RAW to spoil bilateral relations between Pakistan and US. According to media reports, he granted Pakistani visa to hundreds of CIA agents within a few days. Vali Nasr in his renowned book, ‘Dispensable Nation’ has noted that there is more CIA presence and lesser diplomatic US presence in Pakistan. After his removal as ambassador from US, he has been playing openly in the hands of Indians. He frequently visits India and attends seminars and conferences, where his only purpose is to deliver anti-Pakistan speeches. His academic critique of Pakistan’s state ideology, and defence and foreign policies must be ridiculed as that of an opportunist, who now works either for the Americans or the Indians, or possibly both. Haqqani is a turncoat guilty of treason against his own country. In a nutshell, Hussain Haqqani leaves no stone unturned in distorting the image of Pakistan and it armed forces, while showing the country a fundamentalist state in order to please his external masters. While serving as Pakistani ambassador, he was protecting American interests and developed secret liaisons with Indo-Israeli lobbies and became covert element of anti-Pakistan campaign. Particularly, this could be judged from his book in which he targeted both military and Islamic ideology. Ironically, American famous writers and authors exaggeratedly praised the book of Husain Haqqani as it was in accordance with the hidden agenda and blame game of the US high officials and media which still continue against Pakistan and its security agencies.
