I am getting more and more convinced that Americans have a well-thought-out plan and an appropriate road-map to bring about a ‘Peace Accord’ between Pakistan and India. This Peace Accord is unlikely to border around the resolution of the core issue between the two countries—i.e Kashmir.

The U.S objective behind this accord will be to ‘subsequently’ pressurise Pakistan into a mindset conducive to ‘readiness for denuclearization’.

The key U.S argument will be: “Now that your relations with India are quite friendly and free of disputes, you have no Indian threat— and thus don’t need nuclear arsenal for deterrence.”

To denuclearize Pakistan has been a key goal of Israel-friendly Washington since the Afghan Jehad ended with the defeat of the Soviet Union.

Quite understandably India is on board with both the U.S and Israel on this issue. Regarding its own nuclear arsenal, India has a convincing argument. “We have Chinese threat to deal with.”

Americans have come to believe that for them to achieve their objectives in this region it is important that the Nawaz-Zardari version of democracy prevails in Islamabad, and for the first time in Pakistan’s history there is a coup against the Army here.

This Nation is indeed at cross-roads— caught up in the challenge of all challenges.

Will the Washington-New Dehli agenda be allowed to prevail?
