The holy month of Ramadhan is only a few days away and the hoarders and black marketers are back at their old tactics as usual. In the non- Muslim world, the traders cut back considerably the price of essential commodities on the eve of their religious occasions aon their own volition so that the have-nots don’t face any financial trouble in buying edibles and other utility items which are essential for celebrating these occasions. On the contrary, in this part of the world where we live in, our trading community jack up the price index of consumer goods during occasions like Ramadhan or Eids. They also excel in the vices of hoarding those edibles which are in high demand during these days thus creating their artificial scarcity in the market and then selling them on the sly on the rate of their choice thus scooping fat gains. What good are the administration, police, intelligence agencies and personnel of the Food Authority if they cannot rein them in and ensure availability of essential commodities on rates within the reach of the common man?The hoarders and black marketers don’t deserve any mercy at all. They deserve extremely harsh punishment and ruthless treatment at the hands of law and order enforcing agencies as they are no better than parasites who suck up the last drop of blood from the body of hapless common man.
History books reveal that the minions of Allaudin Khilji, the king of Delhi used to come down with a heavy hand on the hoarders, black marketers and those tinkering with the weighing machines with the result that as long as he ruled Delhi no trader could dare to indulge in these vices. Why should the government adopt a kid-glove treatment towards them?
