ABDULLAH MUSTAFVI

There is hardly any point to relax upon the water situation in Pakistan . A fresh wave of concerns related to unalterable negligence on part of government circles is coming with full circles mostly on social media . A stock pile of fiery but brainless statements by self styled leaders are in air damaging our ears with no purpose as usual! We have in abundance the hate mongers who are all set to blow the poor Dam with explosive in case some one dares to begin the construction at Kala Bagh . These champions of ethnic prejudice claim to cut or sacrifice none but the heads in response to any acceleration on the path of dam construction . It will not be unjustified to say that linguistic prejudice in Pakistan is as lethal as religious extremism or sectarian fanaticism . Three generations have paid price for fruitless nationalism of brainless flag bearers of Pushtoon , Baloch , Sindhi or Punjabi ethnicity . All sort of vague verbal cannonade came up since decades against Kala Bagh Dam but not for once any of the so called nationalist champion could present a workable alternate option to resolve the water issue . Irony of the fate is that we have been cursed with such a pathetic lot of rulers as well as leaders who never let this nation focus upon the real issue ! Issue is day by day worsening water crisis for which country needs to construct multiple dams . Site of a dam should not be taken as an issue serious enough to remain in a state of absolute halt over construction of water storage facilities .Why are we so possessed by the Kala Bagh ? Why couldn’t we accelerate an inch forward on this matter despite being ruled by all brands of rulers which include elected democrats , military dictators with Islamic mindset and moderately enlightened . None of these great brains could cure the water disease ! It is enough evidence of incompetence and negligence which runs like blood in body of our governance system . Now , we have awaken up on social media after watching Indian PM Modi inaugurating Kishen Ganga project in occupied Kashmir which also reminded us that our arch rival neighbor has plans to divert or block our water . This social media awakening might not suffice to match the severity of the issue. Like the past rulers , PML –N regime had no place for water storage projects in her priority list . While making endless endeavors to conquer the state institutions, operating precisely under her own control, this bunch of jokers lost every fortress in the hands of an extremely vigilant rival like India which is being led by an efficient and cunning ideologue like Modi . Besides many other ills , our non productive parliamentary system has developed a serious inactivity on accountability of rulers . Credit for this malicious fault primarily goes to the opposition benches which are mostly seen and heard on TV talk shows but remain invisible on the floor of house . Zero acceleration on dam construction since decades and meaningful entanglement with Kala Bagh site speaks volumes about our infinite negligence . Present precarious state of water shortage is the decades long criminal negligence of our self styled brain less leaders who some how the other manage to reach at the top ladders of decision making tiers through persistent hoodwinking of criminal friendly system . Our state institutions like Indus Water Commission regularly milked the national exchequer but flatly failed in mounting even the customary routine response over serious violations of India in designs of dams on her side . Deep sleep of our institutions finished once social media pricks made a little scratch on thick skin . Now we listen loud hue and cry by the geniuses of state offices that world bank is not paying attention to our appeals for arbitration over Kishen ganga hydro electric power project . Like wise , we have now one more name called as Rampur hydro electric project to add in the list of embarrassments . After giving India all the precious time to design and build the dams best suiting to her needs eventually the Socrates of PML-N regime shamelessly sent a delegation to world bank authorities to stop India from stealing our share of water . Apparently , India was already done with the job and the project was in a non reversible state . Media reports portray a bleak picture as the world bank expressed inability to play any effective role desired by pak delegation led by then attorney general Mr Ashter Ausaf . On the contrary , our rulers claim that nothing wrong has happened with us so far and our great brains successfully convinced the world bank authorities by extending two options to settle the hydro disputes with India . Only a fool can believe upon official claims on this account . We need a serious head over shoulders to deal with water related issues . Pakistan needs water storage facilities all over the country . Ethnic color must not be allowed to change the texture of a basic necessity like water into a dispute . CJP has shown extra ordinary interest over water issue and ex opposition leader in National Assembly Mr Khursheed Shah , while maintaining the pathetic tradition of brainless political pundits, criticized by saying that it was none of CJP’s job to talk about the dams . Well some one should ask from this PPP Socrates that whose job was it actually ? Let the sanity to prevail over water issue and rulers to prove their metal with actions instead of words.
