The new government has to undertake reforms in almost all sectors of life including the present mechanism of intra-party election. Time has certainly come to evolve an election system inside the party like a pyramid in which intra-party elections should be held from Tehsil-level upwards to the federal level, including, district and provincial levels. It should be made a rule that no person would hold any party position more than twice so that fresh blood continues to man important party cadre positions and monopolies are not created in the party.
The present system under which party funds are raised leaves much to be desired. Experience of hindsight reveals that persons with dubious credentials who have come into big money gain access to the political parties by first depositing hefty amounts in the parties’ funds for catching the eyes of the head of the party who then invariably favours them in return by giving them party tickets for parliament. This has been happening in almost all the leading political parties of the country since long. It is, therefore, essential that this system is done away with in order to discourage the entry of unscrupulous element in the political arena.
The new PM must get rid of ceremonial officers like military secretary and the ADC as it looks odd that a democratically elected person should exhibit such a pomp and show which might suit a monarch or a dictator but not an elected person whose style of living and governance must be down to earth. It is in the evidence that the principal secretaries of many former prime ministers had caused more harm than good to them. With the passage of time they become too big for their boots. PM office can be run more efficiently without them with a senior political secretary on the political side and a deputy secretary on the civilian side.
