The affairs of the Capital Development Authority and Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad need to be streamlined. Though the MCI has been set up as a separate independent organisation, confusion still exists as to what are the precise duties, rights and responsibilities of these two different Bodies. The worst sufferer in this war of words between those at the helm of affairs of these two organisations is the poor resident of the federal capital. The MCI objects to the collection of various taxes pertaining to municipal services by the CDA and says now when the municipal affairs of the federal capital are its baby, why the hell should the CDA be collecting them?In the same manner, it had better not interfere in the postings and transfers of the municipal staff who are now answerable to the MCI and not the CDA.
The new government would have to ensure that the dividing line between the CDA and the MCI is clearly drawn so that there is no confusion, whatever, between them as to their duties and responsibilities.
Water scarcity and poor traffic system should also engage priority attention of the new political set up of Islamabad. It should also be thinking in terms of banning any further expansion of the city as it has started bursting as it seems. Mushroom growth of new housing colonies need to be checked, otherwise, Islamabad would become unmanageable before long, besides, losing its vibrancy and vitality .
POSTSCRIPT : Whenever there is VVIP movement on the road between the airport and Islamabad, and it happens quite frequently, the traffic police invariably block the general flow of traffic on some roads which they call ‘ Routes’ in their parlance causing great inconvenience to the commutters. Why can’t they carry the VVIPs in choppers from the airport to their destinations in the federal capital in order to avoid traffic jams?
