A politician is akin to a fish. Just as the latter cannot live without water, the former too is restive and he cannot survive if he is out of power. Camera’s eye never tells a lie. If one looks at the latest photos of those politicians who were booted out of power in the 25 July 2018 elections, one can see frustration and sadness writ large on their face.
All the losing candidates these days miss very much the fat purse which they used to get as member of the assemblies. Not only did they get an handsome monthly pay, they were paid additional allowance for every assembly session. This is not to mention free medical facility available to them, both inside or outside the country, concessional air and railway tickets , boarding and lodging facility etc etc. Besides, every member of the assembly received crore of rupees annually for carrying out developmental activity in their political constituency. Insiders say all of this money was never spent by them on the developmental schemes and a lion’s share out of it allegedly went into their pocket. Obviously , if these facilities come to an end all of a sudden when you lose elections the resultant shock is tremendous.
Politics has become a very profitable business in this country. No other business can give one such a big dividend as the politics does. For instance , If one invests 3 crore of rupees in the election to any assembly, he conveniently earns 4 times more the amount spent by him on his election during his stint as MNA, MPA or a senator and there are no chances of one suffering any loss.
