The party and government offices are quite different from each other. In a truly democratic set-up they are manned by different persons. If a political party comes into power after winning election and any of its office holder, for instance, its head, its general secretary or its joint secretary etc etc win the election and made a minister or prime minister he should then resign from the party office on which the party should then elect a new person. In this way the party cadre and the government cadre could be kept separate. It is the duty of the party office holders to keep a sharp eye on the working of its ministers and ensure that they do not indulge in any activity which is against the party’s manifesto or illegal.
The common man expects from the PTI that it sets up this healthy precedent as early as possible. In point of fact, all political parties should follow this golden principle. Look at India. Modi is the PM of India but the BJP, which he belongs to, is headed by Amit Shah.
