Imran Khan is working almost round the clock and he rightly expects his cabinet ministers to follow suit and work for at least 14 hours daily in order to enable the country to find its feet. His predecessor-in-office wasn’t as hardworking or punctual as he is. Z. A. Bhutto was, however, as untiring as he is. He seldom took his dinner before midnight after he had cleared the last file on his desk. His cabinet ministers found it difficult to keep pace with him. One remembers that once he undertook visit to 7 countries in almost the same number of days on a political mission in early 1972 after he came to power.
The PTI chief has only one pair of hands and he has to work overtime to translate into reality the promises he has made with the common man at the hustings. The wily Britishers had landed in India during the era of Moghal dynasty ostensibly for carrying out trade activities though gradually they became the rulers of this vast country. Robert Clive and Warren Hastings, one after the other , ruled the roost in India. They amassed a lot of money by exploiting their position in the government but once they returned to England they were tried by the British parliament for corruption as the news of their corruption in India had preceded to England even before their return. The enormous wealth amassed by Clive was confiscated and he committed suicide after his ill gotten wealth was confiscated and he became penniless . Warren Hastings also met the same fate. Let us see what future holds for some of our former rulers whose cases are under various stages of investigation or trial in this country.
