Imran Khan hit the nail on the head when he said in his address to the nation recently that the CJP deserves hosannas for opening a fund for raising money for the construction of a dam. He very rightly pointed out that what should have been done by the politician rulers of this country was done by the CJP. Truer words were never spoken. It is a pity that during the past thirty years or so when the PPP, the PML(N) and Musharraf ruled the roost in the country nobody among them realised how important is the construction of new dams in the country! Those at the helm of affairs during this period were only interested in raising their private financial assets both inside and outside the country. It fell to the lot of Imran Khan to find a solution to the water crisis with which the country is confronted today.
There is no doubt that the Pakistanis would pay heed to the call of the PTI’s chairman because they believe in his impeccable financial integrity. They are secure in the knowledge that their money would be in safe hands if they contributed their bit to the special fund announced by the PM which has been merged with the one already opened by the CJP for the purpose.
It goes without saying that if on the one hand we need more multi-purpose Hydel dams for meeting our growing demand of electricity as well as for boosting our agriculture we also need to caution the common man of this country to be parsimonious in the use of water for day to day purposes. At the moment we as a nation are spendthrift in the use of water which needs a self-imposed voluntary rationing on our part in order to ensure that it isn’t wasted and for that to happen a concerted media campaign needs to be launched at once.
