Journalists associated with investigative journalism must carry out research for ascertaining whether or not the incidence of suicide bombings and other crimes against the state has fallen after the re-introduction of capital punishment in the country and if so to what extent? In this country the capital punishment had remained suspended for a very very long time in the not-too-distant past.
It is a pity that the ministers in the present federal cabinet too often remain absent from the proceedings of the National Assembly. Insiders say the speaker of the NA had to call on the PM recently to bring this to his notice. The NA suffered from the same malady whether it was the NA of Musharaf’s era or the NAs during the PPP and Nawaz League’s time. The ministers didn’t care a fig for parliament and they often remained absent from its proceedings. There was also a quorum problem quite often. The PM must appoint a go-getter type of hard task master from amongst his party’s MNAs as the chief parliamentary whip who should be strong enough to bare his teeth to the erring ministers . He should not be like the mealy-mouthed whip of the last government who was often taken for a ride by Nawaz League’s ministers. The Ministers of the present government would start attending the NA sessions provided the PM himself becomes regular in attending them. Moreover , if the government starts a separate TV channel for live coverage of parliament it might result in the improvement in the attendance of the MNAs, including the ministers, because most of them are shit-scared of TV camera which never tells a lie.
POSTSCRIPT : The rulers should not issue statements or give off-the-cuff remarks about foreign affairs through twitters which look childish. The spokesperson of the Foreign office is the proper person through which the viewpoint of the government should be made known to the world. It would save them from a lot of embarrassment.
