LAHORE, October 3: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Wednesday suspended Rana Mashhood’s basic membership of the party, hours after he retracted his statement pertaining to a ‘deal with ‘establishment’.
According to PML-N spokesperson Marriyum Aurengzeb, party’s president Shehbaz Sharif said the move had been made in light of Mashhood’s controversial statement.
The spokesperson further said that a three-member committee comprising Raja Zafarul Haq, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Rana Tanveer has been formed to investigate as to why and whose behest Mashhood had given the remarks. Mashhood’s fate will be decided based on the findings of the probing body, Aurangzeb added.
On Wednesday, Mashhood said the party always “respected state institutions” as he backtracked from his earlier statement alleging an ‘understanding’ had been reached between the party and the establishment in the run-up to the general elections.
Addressing the media, Mashhood said he did not mention any ‘deal’ in the news show and remained adamant that his words were misinterpreted and twisted.
“We [PML-N] did not broker a deal,” he asserted and claimed he did not mean ‘Pakistan Army’ when he said ‘establishment’.-Agencies
