LAHORE, October 9: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Tuesday indicted former Inspector General Police (IGP) Punjab Mushtaq Sukhera among 115 suspects in the Model Town tragedy case.
Sukhera appeared before Judge Aijaz Hasan and denied the charges leveled against him in today’s proceedings. His counsel submitted Rs5 million in surety bonds along with a request to excuse Sukhera’s presence for the next hearings, Express News reported.
The court summoned witnesses in the case to record their statements
and adjourned hearing till tomorrow. A heavy police contingent surrounded the court premises as the hearing was underway.
Last month, the Supreme Court summoned record of under-trial cases related to the Model Town tragedy from an ATC in Lahore.
The petitioner, Bisma, daughter of a lady who lost her life during the tragedy, also appeared before the court, saying that the chief justice had ordered the ATC to pass a verdict within three months.
She further added that daily hearings have been counter-productive as all lawyers have withdrawn from the case.- Agencies
