Some people say that the educated Pakistanis have damaged their country more than the uneducated but it is also a fact that parliament is the place where its members have to draft legislation aimed at amelioration of the lot of the common man. In fact, they are elected for carrying out this job only. If the uneducated or less educated persons were allowed to become members of the legislature one can imagine the quality of legislation. It is precisely for this reason that many countries have fixed the minimum qualification of at least BA or MA for a person to contest poll for parliament.
It is not understandable as to why some politicians lavish too much praise on the parliamentary democracy and raise their eyebrows when anyone suggest the Introduction of the presidential system in the country. Didn’t the politicians thrown up by parliamentary democratic system during the past couple of decades play havoc with the democracy in this country? The detractors of the presidential system fear that since Panjab was the most populated province of he country ,therefore ,in case presidential system was introduced in the country the president of the country would always be from that province. Now his possibility can be obviated if after every four years the president of the country is elected turn by turn from very province through direct voting in which the voters belonging to the entire country should cast their votes.
Nawabzada Nasrullah Khan used to say that one should continue making improvements and amendments in the democratic system based on trial and error and taking into account one’s experiences as this was the only way to achieve perfection. One should learn by one’s experiences in one’s quest for excellence .
