It is in the air that the former CM Panjab was arrested by the NAB because a senior bureaucrat Fawad Hasan Fawad has spilled the beans in a mega corruption case.The said civil servant had remained quite close to both Shahbaz and Nawaz Sharif and was privy to their many financial deeds.He had been a blue-eyed boy of Sharif brothers.He has reportedly divulged some secret information in a mega corruption scam He told the NAB investigation team that whatever he did was done by him on the direction of his boss Shahbaz Sharif and he had no personal interest in them.The question is: Is a government functionary supposed to carry out any illegal order of his political boss? The answer to it is obviously a big NO.Heaven would not have fallen had he refused to implement those illegal orders on which NAB has apprehended him.The most that could have happened to him was that he would have been made OSD by the then government and that was that.
The tragedy with our senior bureaucrats is that they are accustomed to a life of leisure and power.They fancy moving in the corridors of power and enjoy umpteen financial perks that go with the prized positions.
Fawad Hasan unlike his bulky frame has turned out to be a man of weak nerves.He couldn’t withstand the police investigation for a longer time and confessed the crime he was charged with immediately.Whether he gets any reprieve now, which is normally given to an approver and to what extent, is to be determined by the trial court.Fawad has, by his sins of omission and commission ,brought a very bad name to the civil service and he will have to live it down for a long, long time to come. He should not have become a party to the crimes committed by his political bosses.
